NGC7380: The Wizard

NGC 7380 is an open cluster of stars in Cepheus, discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1787. The surrounding emission nebulosity is known colloquially as the Wizard Nebula, which spans an angle of 25′. The nebula is known as S 142 in the 1959 Sharpless catalogue (Sh2-142). The NGC 7380 complex is located at a distance of approximately 8.5 kilolight-years from the Sun.

This image is the combination of 18 x 180 sec subs from each of SW72ED/ASI533MC-Pro and Orion ED80/ASI294MC-Pro. The 533 used L-enHance filter and 294 the L-eXtreme filter. The Moon was full and the target was less than 25deg above horizon here in Cornwall.

NGC7822:

NGC7822 is a young star forming complex in the constellation of Cepheus. The complex includes one of the hottest stars discovered within 1 kpc of the Sun, namely BD+66 1673, which is an eclipsing binary system consisting of an O5V that exhibits a surface temperature of nearly 45,000 K and a luminosity about 100,000 times that of the Sun.

Taken with 72mm refractor using ASI533MC-Pro camera fitted with L-Enhance filter. The image is made up of 28 sub frames of 180 sec duration and appropriate dark/lights. The target was low down in the murk and the Moon was bright. It demonstrates, I think, the power of these narrowband filters in pretty poor conditions.
